Pashinyan: I recognized Azerbaijan’s borders to secure Armenia’s

At the Comprehensive Security and Resilience–2025 international conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan explained why he recognized Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

“I did it to recognize Armenia’s territorial integrity,” he said, as reported by Panorama.am .

“Why did I recognize Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity? For a simple reason: every country’s territorial integrity is enclosed by that of its neighbors. Therefore, I had to recognize Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in order to have Armenia’s recognized. There is simply no other way.

We’re consistently implementing a security strategy based on legitimacy, and this strategy has made peace possible,” Pashinyan stated.

He added that an important dialogue took place on October 6, 2022, in Prague, as also reported by Sputnik Armenia.

“It was there that we referred to the Alma-Ata Declaration, and a turning point occurred, Armenia and Azerbaijan declared their willingness to recognize each other’s territorial integrity based on that declaration,” he continued.

On October 6, 2022, in Prague, Armenia and Azerbaijan confirmed their commitment to the UN Charter and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, thereby mutually recognizing each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. This became the basis for the work of the border delimitation commissions.
