Minister inspects renovation works at Tsitsernakaberd

Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and Museum-Institute to review the progress of large-scale renovation works underway at the site.

Representatives of the contractor briefed the minister on the current stage of construction, outlining upcoming tasks. They stressed that the restoration of the memorial pillars is being carried out according to the approved design solutions.

Andreasyan inquired about ongoing issues and highlighted the importance of professional consultations to ensure that reconstruction and landscaping works at the memorial complex are conducted properly.

The ministry announced that Andreasyan’s visits will be regular in order to continuously monitor the quality and progress of the works at Tsitsernakaberd.

The renovation process has sparked controversy online over alleged damage caused during the works. Former director of the Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan staged a protest at Tsitsernakaberd, warning of the scale of harm done under the guise of restoration. Architect Anahit Tarkhanyan also shared video evidence, stating: “Look at how they tore off the stones. They couldn’t remove them properly, so they smashed them. I couldn’t believe my eyes.”
