Government unveils vision for national “aesthetic identity”

The Armenian government has published a draft decision titled “On the Localization and Support of the Aesthetics of True Armenia” for public discussion via the e-draft platform. The proposal was shared on the official legal drafts portal.

According to the project summary, the core aesthetic guideline is described as a “gaze inward—toward effective interaction with the outside world,” Factor.am reports.

The decision to establish the concept of “True Armenia’s aesthetics” stems from the argument that the country’s future development and institutional consolidation require a defined and supported aesthetic strategy—something currently lacking.

The initiative aims to identify the key principles and standards for aesthetic expressions that are crucial to Armenia’s international representation. This includes the design of Armenian pavilions at global exhibitions, ceremonial representations in various settings, and the aesthetics of public life where civic self-awareness is viewed as a core value.

According to the proposal, state development should not be limited to legal, legislative, or economic dimensions, but should also incorporate aesthetic forms that complement and strengthen other aspects of national and public life. These forms are intended to deepen citizens’ self-awareness, sense of belonging to the state, and foster Armenia’s aesthetic visibility in the public domain.

The government adds that developing these aesthetic principles and standards also serves as a process of self-recognition, starting with a clearer understanding of the present.

So far, 200 citizens have expressed support for the draft during the public consultation, while 5 have opposed it.
