Court upholds bail, travel ban for ex-CSTO official

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal case against Haykaz Baghmanyan, former Deputy Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, the Armenian court upheld a bail condition of 40 million AMD alongside a ban on leaving the country.

At the September 17 hearing, public prosecutor Tsovak Mnatsakanyan insisted on maintaining both measures, according to Factor.am .

Baghmanyan’s defense attorneys, Mushegh Aleksanyan and Artur Manukyan, did not object to the bail but argued that the travel ban was no longer justified. They noted that Baghmanyan was outside Armenia when he learned about the charges, yet chose to return, indicating no intent to flee.

In his address to the court, Baghmanyan said, "I have nowhere to run. My homeland is Armenia."

The court ultimately rejected the defense’s motion, deciding to maintain both the bail and the travel restriction.

Baghmanyan is charged under multiple articles of Armenia’s Criminal Code, including large-scale money laundering, illegal involvement in entrepreneurial activity, and concealing information subject to declaration. The charges stem from five separate incidents.
