Artsakh’s authorities have raised the issue of exhuming and transferring to Armenia the remains of 66 people killed in 2023 and buried in Artsakh, President Samvel Shahramanyan said at Yerablur Military Pantheon.
“They are buried in the Stepanakert brotherly cemetery and in the regions. We raised this issue with both Armenian authorities and Azerbaijani representatives. We obtained consent, but unfortunately, it has not happened yet,” Shahramanyan stated, according to Panorama.am .
He added that Artsakh also raised the issues of returning missing persons and captives.
Answering journalists’ questions, Shahramanyan denied claims that he had been in Yevlakh or signed any documents there. “The circulating claims are false,” he said.
He insisted that all discussions held were of a purely humanitarian nature and that other reports lacked any real basis.
On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack on Artsakh, bombarding the entire territory. On September 20, under Russian mediation, Artsakh authorities accepted a ceasefire, agreeing to Baku’s terms: disarmament of the Defense Army and dissolution of the republic. Beginning September 24, more than 100,000 Armenians were forcibly displaced to Armenia, with only about 20 remaining in Artsakh. On September 28, President Shahramanyan signed the decree on dissolution, effective January 1, 2024.
