In a shocking incident in Armavir Province, Parakar community head Volodya Grigoryan was fatally shot late on September 23, along with a companion, while a third person was wounded.
According to initial reports, at 23:52 police received word that shots had been fired on Yerevan Highway in the Merdzavan area of Armavir. There are two dead and one injured, the Interior Ministry says. One of the dead is Volodya Grigoryan, who was the mayor of Parakar.
Authorities say that the second victim is Karen Abrahamyan, a criminal police officer, who was off duty at the time and accompanying Grigoryan.
The wounded person is being operated on.
An investigation has been launched. Forensic examinations are ordered, and law enforcement is working to clarify all circumstances.
In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan strongly condemned the attack, demanding swift identification and accountability of all involved. He also called for a review of preventive measures that should have been in place in Parakar.
Under Article 155.1 (2) (murder), Article 44‑155.1 (attempted murder), and Article 335.1 (illegal arms trafficking) of the Armenian Criminal Code, a case has been initiated by the Vagharshapat branch of the Armavir regional investigative department.
Grigoryan was 42 years old and a father of four children. He was a member of the Country to Live party.
Law enforcement continues operational and evidentiary measures in the case.
