Armenia aims to deepen ties with SCO, says deputy PM

During a reception marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan emphasized Armenia’s deep appreciation for its partnership with China. The event took place at the Chinese Embassy in Yerevan.

He stressed Armenia’s desire to establish closer ties with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), citing the group’s core values as the basis for such interest.

“Armenia highly values its cooperation with friendly China and the strong political dialogue rooted in mutual understanding and trust. I am pleased to note that 2025, like previous years, has been a dynamic one for Armenia–China cooperation across multiple sectors. It has been marked by high-level mutual visits and tangible results,” said Khachatryan.

Concluding his remarks, he reaffirmed the Armenian government’s commitment to strengthening friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with China, expressing confidence that bilateral ties will continue to grow in the interests of both peoples.

Armenia has applied for membership in the SCO, but during the most recent summit, Pakistan vetoed the application, while India blocked Azerbaijan’s bid to join the organization.
