ANC deputy chair Levon Zurabyan said the party will not join forces with ex-presidents Kocharyan or Sargsyan, stressing the need for new trusted leadership.
Speaking at ongoing parliamentary hearings, Zurabyan stated that the Armenian National Congress (ANC) has no plans to form an alliance or political movement with either of the opposition groups led by Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan, or third president Serzh Sargsyan, Radar Armenia reported.
He described the years of governance by the ruling Civil Contract party as disastrous, especially in the security sphere, accusing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of having “destroyed the security system.”
Explaining why previous opposition attempts to remove the current leadership failed, Zurabyan pointed to the absence of credible, fresh leadership. “Our people don’t want to flee from a dog only to fall into a wolf’s mouth. Until they see real leaders with a transformative vision and a serious program, they will not rise against Pashinyan,” he said.
Zurabyan stressed that ANC has such a program, highlighting its geopolitical dimension. “Our plan for real peace must include the construction of a Yerevan–Meghri railway with the involvement of BRICS countries. This would free Armenia from one-sided dependence on Azerbaijan and lay the foundations for genuine peace based on geopolitical balance,” he added.
