Deputy chief of Prime Minister’s staff Taron Chakhoyan dismissed the impeachment initiative as a “political circus,” accusing ex-president Sargsyan of repeatedly sabotaging his own allies.
In a Facebook post, Chakhoyan wrote that “there is no more unserious process than impeachment,” calling the move initiated under Serzh Sargsyan’s influence a real “political monkey show.”
He questioned why Sargsyan chose to “ruin” Masis mayor Davit Hambardzumyan by pushing him into the spotlight as the opposition’s prime ministerial candidate.
“Sargsyan is unmatched in destroying his own. He ruined Vanetsyan, and now it’s the Masis mayor’s turn,” Chakhoyan wrote.
The parliament is currently debating the “On the national crisis and governance failure” draft statement introduced by the opposition I Have Honor faction. To formally table a no-confidence motion, at least 36 MPs must sign; the opposition holds 34. Adoption would require 54 votes, meaning 20 pro-government deputies would need to join.
