Minister says brandy export difficulties mostly solved

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan announced that an isotope laboratory will open in Armenia in early 2026 to certify Armenian brandy exports.

According to Papoyan, the laboratory is expected to launch in January or February 2026. It will verify whether Armenian brandy meets production standards by testing if it is made from grape spirit or other alcohols, Sputnik Armenia reported.

He noted that most of the problems related to exports have already been resolved, though some difficulties remain. “We hope these will be overcome once laboratory capacities are fully established,” Papoyan said.

The creation of the isotope laboratory will allow all necessary tests to be conducted inside Armenia, eliminating the need to rely on certification centers in Georgia. “The examinations that were carried out in Georgia will now take place in Armenia, ensuring smooth exports,” he added.

Papoyan also stated that specialists are currently undergoing training to obtain the required licenses for the lab’s operation.

Earlier this summer, Armenia faced difficulties with brandy supplies to Russia due to transit issues through Georgia. To resolve them, Papoyan traveled to Tbilisi to negotiate faster oversight procedures with Georgian partners.
