One detained in Merdzavan murder investigation

A suspect has been arrested and handed over to the investigative body as part of the criminal proceedings launched over a recent murder in Merdzavan, Armenia’s Investigative Committee reports. The arrest followed large-scale joint operations by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Security Service.

During urgent investigative actions, incriminating evidence was found in a building owned by the suspect. Among the recovered items were a mask, gloves, shoes, jacket, and a night vision device, all reportedly used during the crime, which the suspect allegedly tried to destroy by burning.

Investigators are conducting further procedural actions to establish the full circumstances of the case and to locate the murder weapon, an assault rifle.

The Investigative Committee assures the public that the operational services are in full control of the situation and that the investigation will apply all legally permitted measures to uphold the principle of criminal accountability and ensure a comprehensive inquiry.

Given the high public interest, the committee will continue to provide updates on the investigation within the limits permitted by law.

Note: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court by a legally binding verdict.
