Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan has addressed the city’s plans to update its transport fleet by acquiring new electric buses. According to him, this initiative not only helps modernize and expand the fleet but also improves air quality, as electric buses have no harmful atmospheric emissions.
He reminded that air pollution becomes a serious issue in winter, largely due to vehicles, as reported by Radar Armenia.
The mayor also outlined the city’s strategy to promote the use of electric vehicles.
“We have a clear logic to further encourage the adoption of electric cars and electric transport in the city, replacing internal combustion engine vehicles,” he stated.
The Ministry of Environment recently denied claims that Yerevan has the worst air quality in the region, saying such assertions are based on unofficial online platforms and not official monitoring data. A recent international conference had alleged that Yerevan’s air quality is the poorest in the South Caucasus.
