Interior Ministry: murders decline in Armenia in 2025

Narek Sargsyan, spokesperson for Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that according to police operational summaries, 32 actual murder cases were recorded in the first eight months of 2025, two fewer than in the same period of 2024.

He also responded to claims that frequent reports of shootings reflect an extreme lawlessness in the country, Armenpress reported.

“The majority of these shootings are linked to hooliganism-related criminal cases, and mostly involve air guns or shots fired into the air. To present this as total chaos in the country is an unfounded claim,” said the ministry spokesperson.

According to him, during the first eight months of 2025, police uncovered nearly twice as many illegal firearms and ammunition as in January–August 2024.

On September 23 at 23:52, police received a report of gunfire in Merdzavan, Armavir region, on Yerevan highway. Two people were killed and one injured. Among the victims was Vоlodya Grigoryan, head of Parakar community and a member of the political council of the Country to Live party. Elected in April 2025, he was the father of four.
