In Strasbourg, at the Palace of Europe, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The meeting focused on the Armenia–Council of Europe cooperation agenda, with emphasis on reforms to strengthen democratic institutions, human rights protection, and the rule of law. Pashinyan reiterated the government’s commitment to continue effective engagement with Council of Europe bodies.
The parties also discussed PACE’s monitoring frameworks and working relations, stressing that deepening the Armenia–Council of Europe partnership is vital for institutional resilience and Armenia’s integration with the European legal space.
The sides reviewed the agenda of the current PACE session. Pashinyan thanked Rousopoulos for the high-level organization of the visit and for his consistent support, emphasizing Armenia’s appreciation of the Council of Europe’s role in advancing peace, protecting freedoms, and improving judicial efficiency.
Both sides reaffirmed readiness to maintain dialogue and expand practical cooperation.
Pashinyan and Rousopoulos also exchanged views on regional and international issues. They underlined the pre-signing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8, expressing confidence that peace would provide a significant boost to regional cooperation and stability.
On September 30, Pashinyan will address the plenary session of PACE’s fourth part-session. As part of his visit, he has already met with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset and will also meet with ECHR President Matthias Guilloumar and Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O’Flaherty.
