Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, addressing a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) prime ministers via video conference, responded to Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov by urging him to refrain from using the term “Zangezur corridor.”
“It is necessary to avoid using the term ‘Zangezur corridor.’ According to high-level documents signed between the countries, in the context of unblocking regional routes, the appropriate formulation is ‘Transport route for international peace and prosperity,’” Grigoryan stated.
He also emphasized that without the creation of modern infrastructure and effective transportation and communication logistics, sustainable and inclusive economic progress is not achievable.
“In this context, I would like to note that the Republic of Armenia is committed to the agenda of regional connectivity,” he said.
Grigoryan reported that in the first half of 2025, trade turnover between Armenia and CIS member states totaled around 4 billion U.S. dollars. He acknowledged that this figure represents a slight decrease compared to the same period last year. In light of this, he underlined the need to timely adopt an action plan focused on economic modernization, innovation, and deeper cooperation.
At the end of his speech, Grigoryan reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue developing constructive partnerships and implementing mutually beneficial and forward-looking projects within the CIS framework.
In his address at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responding to statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, said the term “Zangezur corridor” is perceived as a territorial claim against Armenia. He emphasized that despite the peace established by the Washington Declaration between Armenia and Azerbaijan, serious work remains, and the Azerbaijani president’s rhetoric contradicts the logic of peacebuilding.
