The Executive Body of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has issued a statement saying that a broad socio-political consensus has emerged around the initiative to express no confidence in the prime minister.
The statement followed an emergency session held on September 29, where the party reviewed the outcomes of recent parliamentary hearings initiated by its faction.
“It was noted that a wide socio-political consolidation has taken shape around the proposal to express no confidence in the prime minister, with significant contributions also coming from extra-parliamentary forces and public figures.
We welcome the decision of the largest opposition faction in parliament to join the initiative. It was emphasized that close cooperation and regular consultations with opposition partners are essential to ensure the process is organized as effectively as possible.
The party’s local and regional structures were instructed to intensify awareness campaigns in the provinces and engage with the public,” the statement reads.
*Signatures collected by MPs from the Hayastan faction have been passed to the I Have Honor faction for attachment to the impeachment motion.
To formally submit a motion of no confidence in the National Assembly, at least 36 MPs are required. The opposition factions I Have Honor and Hayastan hold 6 and 28 seats respectively (34 in total). To succeed, the motion must secure at least 54 votes, meaning that at least 20 members of the ruling party would have to support the opposition initiative.*
