Civil Contract MP Rustam Bakhoyan told reporters in parliament that claims suggesting members of the ruling faction are ready to support an impeachment process are false.
“There is no such thing, not even a discussion. This is a ridiculous topic,” he said, as reported by Auroranews.am .
When asked if he was authorized to speak for the entire Civil Contract faction, Bakhoyan replied that he didn't need formal authorization.
“I don’t need to be authorized. I speak on behalf of myself and my colleagues. There is no one in the faction who thinks otherwise. We are all committed to the same principles. This isn’t even a topic of discussion in our faction, and I just smile at such claims. I’m surprised this is even being asked — there is no such possibility. The team is acting as one. If there are issues, we address them together,” he stated.
“There is no division within the team. Once again, I officially declare, on behalf of myself and my colleagues, this will never happen. No MP in our party thinks differently,” he added.
When reporters noted that Hovik Aghazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan had left the party, Bakhoyan replied: “Anyone in CC who acts outside the party’s principles, even me, will be removed.”
He stressed there is no reason to worry about possible defections: “Don’t worry, there’s no such problem,” he emphasized.
Signatures from the opposition Hayastan faction have been transferred to the I Have Honor faction to support the impeachment motion against the prime minister.
At least 36 MPs are needed to submit an impeachment motion. I Have Honor has 6 votes, and Hayastan has 28, for a total of 34. For the motion to pass, 54 MPs must vote in favor, meaning at least 20 from the ruling party would need to support the initiative.
