MP: no peace while Azerbaijan threatens Armenia

Artur Khachatryan, a lawmaker from the opposition Hayastan faction, criticized recent statements about peace during a press briefing.

“Why did they rush to sign a paper and declare peace to the world? This is not peace while Azerbaijan continues to occupy parts of Armenia’s territory,” Khachatryan said, as reported by Radar Armenia.

He stressed that genuine peace is not possible as long as Azerbaijan issues threats, makes new demands, and insults the Armenian society.

On August 8, during a trilateral meeting at the White House with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a joint declaration was signed based on the talks in Washington. In the presence of the three leaders, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pre-signed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
