Nzhar movement names Nina Karapetyants PM candidate

Human rights advocate Nina Karapetyants, with 25 years of experience in defending human rights and a founding member of the Nzhar constitutional movement, has been nominated as the movement’s candidate for prime minister.

The announcement was made by inventor Artashes Ikonomov, one of the movement’s co-founders, who said their candidate has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to law and justice, Aravot.am reported.

“We must return to the field of law and restore our democracy,” Ikonomov stated, describing Karapetyants’ nomination as a significant moment in the nation’s history.

Another movement member, Garegin Miskaryan, stressed that Karapetyants has shown loyalty to values for a quarter century, endured systemic pressure, and remained faithful to her principles. He noted that unlike traditional party leaders, Karapetyants represents a different approach, as Armenia’s challenges require deep, systemic solutions beyond party mechanisms.

Miskaryan said the movement will announce its proposed government within about six weeks, explaining how it plans to organize Armenia’s development. For now, he called for broad political cooperation and unity, saying it is premature to discuss ministerial appointments.

The Nzhar movement had earlier announced its intention to participate in Armenia’s 2026 parliamentary elections.
