Head of the Civil Contract faction in parliament Hayk Konjoryan, responding to opposition remarks, stated that the opposition is consistently trying to torpedo the peace agenda.
According to him, Armenia’s three former presidents — Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan — committed false denunciation against Armenia by accusing the country of starting the war, 1lurer.am reported.
“Then you come and say, ‘our three victorious presidents’… How can victorious presidents accuse Armenia of starting a war and falsely denounce the Republic of Armenia?” Konjoryan asked the opposition.
He argued that the opposition demonstrates persistent rejectionism: “When we tell you that you are enemies of positive agendas, and that you try to discredit anything constructive in Armenia, you take offense. But it’s the truth. Whenever the word ‘peace’ is mentioned, you immediately fall into convulsions. You’ve even reached the point where, without hesitation, you accuse Armenia of provoking war,” he said.
Konjoryan also recalled that 20 minutes earlier the Hayastan bloc requested a recess after the previous vote to decide on their stance, but they never returned.
“Why? Because they knew, and I had announced, that immediately after this vote we would discuss the Civil Contract faction’s draft declaration on peace. And since they have always fled from peace, they realized they would have to leave the chamber during that debate.
We record the fact: when it comes to peace, the opposition flees, plays dead, and does everything possible to avoid being linked to peace. There is simply no better proof than this,” Konjoryan said.
On October 2, during an extraordinary session, parliament adopted the declaration on establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, presented by Konjoryan on behalf of Civil Contract.
