Armenian citizens can now drive in UAE with national licenses

Armenian citizens staying in the United Arab Emirates for non-residential purposes will be able to drive freely with their national driver’s licenses. For those residing in the UAE, applying to exchange their licenses will no longer require theoretical or practical driving tests.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan during her working visit.

The agreement, based on the principle of reciprocity, ensures mutual recognition of driver’s licenses issued by the two countries’ ministries of interior.

Sargsyan and Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan underlined the importance of the memorandum, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening cooperation between their ministries and easing unnecessary burdens for citizens of both states.

The two officials praised the partnership between Armenia and the UAE and noted broad prospects for further cooperation. Sargsyan also expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support in facilitating dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
