A U.S. immigration court has ruled that Vardan Ghukasyan, leader of Armenia’s DOK party, will not be extradited to Armenia. His party issued an official statement announcing the decision.
However, the court found that Ghukasyan committed immigration violations and, as a result, must leave U.S. territory.
“More detailed information regarding the court’s ruling will be provided during a press conference on Monday by attorney Baghdasaryan,” the party said in a Facebook post.
On February 21, reports circulated that Ghukasyan had been hospitalized in the U.S. due to severe heart issues. However, on February 27, the party stated his whereabouts were unknown, and the hospitalization claims were unconfirmed. The next day, it was revealed that he had been arrested and was being held in a Las Vegas detention facility, where he remains in custody.
