Armenian prosecutors silent on U.S. ruling on Ghukasyan

Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has declined to comment on the U.S. immigration court’s decision not to extradite Vardan Ghukasyan, the honorary chairman of the DOK party, reports Factor.am .

According to information posted on the party’s official Facebook page, the U.S. court ruled against Ghukasyan’s extradition to Armenia. However, it also found that he violated U.S. immigration regulations and must leave the country.

Ghukasyan’s attorney, Levon Baghdasaryan, said the case is ongoing.

“The United States has requested that he leave its territory, and there is a legal process underway to handle the formalities. Under the law, if an appeal is filed, the ruling does not take legal effect. I can’t yet say whether it will be appealed, I need to read the court decision first,” the lawyer explained.
