From January to August 2025, Armenia’s population vitality index — calculated as the ratio of births to deaths — stood at 118.8%, compared to 127.8% in the same period last year. The natural population growth during this time was 3,227, down from 4,749 in 2024.
According to data from the Statistical Committee, child mortality has risen significantly this year, Panorama.am reports. Between January and August 2025, a total of 181 children aged 0–4 died, including 147 under the age of one. In the same period of 2024, 165 deaths were recorded in this age group, including 137 infants under one.
In total, 17,210 deaths were reported across the country in the first eight months of 2025, compared to 17,072 during the same period in 2024.
Diseases of the circulatory system remained the leading cause of death, followed by cancers, respiratory diseases, and digestive disorders.
