PM spokesperson: Aliyev’s wording unrelared to Armenian land

Nazeli Baghdasaryan, spokesperson for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responded to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent remarks in Gabala referring to the “Zangezur corridor,” stating that this rhetoric “in no way relates to the territory of the Republic of Armenia,” Armenpress reports.

Asked whether the issue had been discussed during the Pashinyan–Aliyev meeting in Copenhagen, Baghdasaryan confirmed it had.

“Following the Copenhagen meeting between the Armenian prime minister and the Azerbaijani president, both sides issued press statements clearly indicating that the TRIPP project concerns Armenia’s territory. Therefore, there are no and cannot be any other projects on the territory of the Republic of Armenia,” she said.

“Yes, the issue was discussed at the Copenhagen meeting, and we reaffirm that the Azerbaijani president’s wording cannot in any way relate to the territory of Armenia. Only the TRIPP and Crossroads of Peace projects are being implemented within Armenia, as clearly established in several international documents,” Baghdasaryan emphasized.

Earlier, Aliyev stated in Gabala that one of the key results of the Washington summit was “the opening of the Zangezur corridor.” His statement followed Pashinyan’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly, in which the Armenian leader warned that the term “Zangezur corridor” is perceived as a territorial claim against Armenia.

At the 80th UN General Assembly session, Pashinyan reaffirmed that while peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan was formalized through the Washington Declaration, significant work remains, and Aliyev’s rhetoric contradicts the logic of peacebuilding.
