Lidia Mantashyan to remain in custody

Lawyer Tatev Soghoyan announced on Facebook that the Court of Appeal has decided to keep Lidia Mantashyan, a participant in the Sacred Struggle movement, under arrest.

“On October 6, Judge Mnatsakan Harutyunyan ruled that Armenia’s only female political prisoner, Lidia Mantashyan, will continue to remain in unlawful detention,” Soghoyan wrote.

Earlier, on August 20, the court had extended her detention for another three months.

On June 25, law enforcement authorities carried out searches at the homes of Sacred Struggle movement supporters. According to the Investigative Committee, the group’s members and leaders allegedly “planned terrorist and coup-related activities in Armenia.” Later, it was reported that the movement’s leader, Archbishop Bagrat, was arrested along with 14 other individuals.
