Tatevik Soghoyan, lawyer for Arsen Ghukasyan, the relative of a missing soldier who was arrested for one month, wrote on Facebook that government-affiliated media misrepresented the object seen in a circulated video.
“Pro-government outlets, true to their habit of turning an ant into an elephant, are presenting a walking cane, officially issued to a person with mobility issues, as a metal rod or baton,” Soghoyan wrote.
She also shared a photo of an official certificate confirming that Ghukasyan had been issued a medical walking cane.
A video published online shows Ghukasyan taking an object from a car trunk and approaching military police officers near the Ministry of Defense building, Panorama.am reported.
Following the incident, Ghukasyan was detained on charges of hooliganism and interference with an official’s lawful duties. According to the Investigative Committee, a criminal case has been launched under Articles 297(3) and 452(1) of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
