The Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) has issued a statement in response to a recent Mediahub.am article concerning a reported incident during the second half of the Ani-14-1 vs Abovyan Academy-14 match on October 6.
The FFA clarified that its President Armen Melikbekyan “has never intervened” in the activities of the federation’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee, nor does he express opinions on their cases in order to preserve objectivity.
The federation stated that after receiving information about the incident, officials from the Competitions and Refereeing Departments arrived at the stadium within 10 minutes, spoke with those involved, documented the circumstances, and submitted the details to the committee for review.
The FFA also rejected a claim that FIFA referee Mesrop Ghazaryan “defended” Khoren Hovhannisyan and allegedly justified violence against a colleague, stating Ghazaryan was present as part of the FFA delegation and expressed no opinion on the matter.
Addressing the allegation that Melikbekyan met with referee Armen Khachatryan to “smooth over” the situation, the federation said no such meeting occurred.
Regarding claims that the FFA did not respond to inquiries from Mediahub.am, the statement confirmed that a written reply was sent on October 8, followed by a phone call promising further information.
The FFA reaffirmed its commitment to investigating all incidents and expressed confidence that the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee will provide an objective assessment.
