Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan stated during a press briefing that there is no initiative, whether infrastructure-related or communicational, under the name “Zangezur Corridor” within the sovereign territory of Armenia. He stressed that such a project not only does not exist but also cannot exist.
“How Azerbaijani authorities choose to name their internal communication projects is their own concern,” Kostanyan said, as reported by 1lurer.am.
He also noted that such issues and the approaches formed around them are discussed, when possible, with all partners, including Azerbaijani representatives.
Previously, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responding to statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, said the term “Zangezur Corridor” is perceived as a territorial claim against Armenia.
Pashinyan emphasized that although the Washington Declaration established peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, significant challenges remain. He also noted that Aliyev’s rhetoric contradicts the logic of building peace.
He addressed the same issue at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), saying: “If it turns out that by saying ‘Zangezur Corridor’ they mean any territory of Armenia, then no one has the right to assign a name to sovereign Armenian territory that is not accepted by Armenia. That would constitute a gross violation of the mutually recognized sovereignty already achieved.”
