Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the I Have Honor parliamentary faction, reported that Arsen Ghukasyan, who suffered severe losses during the 44-day war (his brother was killed and his nephew remains missing) continues to face pressure in prison, following his recent arrest.
According to Abrahamyan, Ghukasyan is being held under conditions that amount to ill-treatment, given his multiple health problems. “This pressure is primarily expressed in the fact that he is kept in custody despite serious illnesses, which can essentially be considered torture. Secondly, his visitation rights are extremely limited, and, for example, even MPs cannot meet with him or examine his situation,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook.
He criticized law enforcement for five years of inaction regarding missing soldiers: “Families have been deceived for years, given no information, the investigative commission’s report remains unpublished, and investigators claim they are ‘still working.’ Instead of those responsible – investigators, prosecutors, judges, political figures – ending up in jail, it’s the citizens seeking justice who are imprisoned.”
Earlier, lawyer Tatev Soghoyan warned that Ghukasyan’s life was at risk at the Nubarashen penitentiary.
On October 6, it was reported that Arsen Ghukasyan and Apijan Sargsyan, both relatives of missing servicemen, were detained during a protest outside the Ministry of Defense. Sargsyan was later released, while Ghukasyan remained in custody. He was charged with hooliganism and obstructing a public official during the September 29 protest and was ordered to one month of pre-trial detention on October 7.
