One person arrested after searches in Merdzavan

Law enforcement officers in Armenia's Merdzavan village have detained one individual following searches at 30 different addresses in the Parakar community. According to the Investigative Committee, the searches were carried out as part of a criminal investigation into a suspected murder plot.

“Investigative actions were conducted in several homes in connection with a criminal case initiated on the grounds of preparing a murder,” the authorities stated.

According to Factor TV, a weapon was discovered in the possession of the arrested individual.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs had announced that, in response to recent murders, preventive operations were underway in Merdzavan, in line with the police’s legally defined powers.

Factor.am notes that, according to their sources, the searches are not related to the killings of Parakar’s mayor, Volodya Grigoryan, and criminal police officer Karen Abrahamyan. Instead, the investigative actions reportedly stem from a separate alert regarding another planned murder.

On September 23 at 11:52 p.m., police received a report of gunfire on Yerevanyan Highway in Merdzavan, Armavir Province. Two people were killed and one wounded. Among the deceased was Parakar mayor Volodya Grigoryan, a member of the political council of the Country to Live party. He had been elected mayor in April 2025 and was the father of four.
