Armenian ambassador joins TRIPP-related talks in U.S.

Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, Narek Mkrtchyan, met with representatives from the U.S. office of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, according to the Armenian Embassy in Washington.

The meeting was attended by Director Thomas Beckett, Senior Transatlantic Relations Researcher Ambassador Michael Carpenter, and other institute representatives.

Discussions focused on shaping a new security environment in the South Caucasus and the operationalization of regional communication routes. Participants also explored options for organizing joint research and conferences, with particular attention on how the agreements reached on August 8 and the TRIPP initiative could significantly impact the geopolitical and economic trajectory of the region.

During a trilateral meeting in Washington, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and U.S. President Donald Trump officially agreed to launch the “Trump Route.” The corridor would enable Azerbaijan to access Nakhichevan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia, in turn, will enter a strategic partnership with the U.S. to develop the route, with the agreement potentially extendable for up to 99 years. Major infrastructure investment is expected, with U.S. companies eager to engage, promising economic benefits for all three nations.

On September 11, Prime Minister Pashinyan said that Armenia did not lease land to the U.S. for 99 years but granted a development right instead.
