The Tatev Aerial Tramway has once again been nominated for the prestigious World’s Leading Cable Car Ride title at the World Travel Awards 2025, as it celebrates its 15th anniversary.
Having already claimed the award in 2021, 2023, and 2024, Tatev now faces competition from renowned cable cars in Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, the U.S., and South Africa.
This landmark project, initiated by Ruben Vardanyan, has had a significant impact on boosting tourism in Armenia’s Syunik region and the country overall, contributing to three international accolades to date.
“Our goal with all these projects is to put Armenia on the world map and make it appealing to locals, the diaspora, and foreigners alike. The hardest part is convincing people that such projects can drive real change in the country,” Vardanyan once stated.
Over the past 15 years, nearly 1.5 million people have used the Tatev cable car. Currently, every fifth tourist visiting Armenia includes Syunik in their itinerary. The region has seen a 17-fold increase in tourist flows and an 11-fold growth in investment.
This tourism revival has also spurred the development of the local hospitality industry. Around 40 new guesthouses have opened in Tatev, Goris, and surrounding communities. Tatev has become a key venue for cultural events and festivals.
