Leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have officially agreed to establish the new CIS+ cooperation format.
According to point 13 of the documents signed during the CIS Heads of State Council meeting, the decision formally creates the Commonwealth of Independent States+ framework, reports Sputnik Armenia.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov commented on the initiative during a broadcast on Rossiya 1 TV, calling the concept highly beneficial.
“The idea itself is very useful. Depending on the agenda of each meeting, the participation of different states can be expected,” he stated.
At the same summit, CIS countries also decided to grant observer status to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), further expanding the scope of multilateral collaboration.
The closed-format CIS summit was held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, under the chairmanship of President Emomali Rahmon. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also attended.
