Armenia sees significant Russian capital outflow in H1 2025

In the first half of 2025, the volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Armenia totaled 5.031 billion drams (almost $13 million). This marks a notable improvement compared to the same period in 2024, when FDI stood at a negative -21.9 billion drams, indicating that foreign investors withdrew more capital than they invested, according to Factor.am .

However, the January–June 2025 period also saw a major outflow of Russian capital from Armenia, amounting to nearly -27 billion drams. This trend began after 2022 and intensified in 2024, when Russian FDI outflow reached -85.3 billion drams, and -25.2 billion drams in 2023.

According to Armenia’s Statistical Committee, the country’s foreign trade volume shrank by 45% in January–June 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, totaling $9.668 billion. Of that, around $3.5 billion was with the Eurasian Economic Union, $88.4 million with other CIS countries, $1.1 billion with the EU, and roughly $4.8 billion with other nations.

During the same timeframe, trade with EAEU member states dropped by 53.7%, while trade with other CIS countries increased by 20.4% and with the EU by 9.5%. Trade with other countries declined by 44.6%.
