RA, EU discuss readmission, visa facilitation in Brussels

On October 9, the 10th meeting of the Armenia-EU Joint Committee on Readmission and the 8th meeting of the Committee on Visa Facilitation were held in Brussels, according to Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The session on readmission was co-chaired by Armenian Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan and Sylvena Pestan, Head of the Readmission Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs.

Participants included representatives from Armenia’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs, members of the European Commission and EU Delegation in Armenia, officials from EU member states, and Frontex agency staff.

The meetings addressed recent developments in migration, ongoing efforts to liberalize visa procedures, and the current implementation status of the readmission agreement, including statistical data and challenges encountered.

Technical and substantive aspects were also discussed with the aim of improving the agreement’s efficiency. The sides reviewed reintegration support programs, improvements in voluntary return mechanisms, and awareness efforts to prevent irregular migration.

The EU side praised its cooperation with Armenia, noting the progress made in implementing the readmission agreement and Armenia’s continued engagement.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of the Armenia-EU readmission and visa facilitation agreements.

On October 8, Deputy Minister Ghazaryan met with Johannes Luchner, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs. The meeting focused on finalizing the Armenia-EU visa liberalization roadmap and steps toward delivering the finalized document to the Armenian side.
