Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is expected to order further arrests, but the fragmentation of the opposition makes it impossible to imprison all potential contenders for power, according to a statement released by the Hayakve initiative.
"Even under conditions where Pashinyan has imprisoned several potential power contenders, his reelection remains highly uncertain," the statement reads.
It adds that the segmentation of the opposition field has led to a paradox: "You jail one person, another emerges, and so it continues. Not all contenders for power can be imprisoned."
Hayakve warns that opposition leaders must be prepared for renewed arrests. "Pashinyan will continue issuing orders for further imprisonments, as he has done repeatedly in the past," the statement says.
"Samvel Karapetyan, clergymen, and dozens of other respected individuals are imprisoned, and they must be ready to campaign even from behind bars," the initiative emphasizes.
The parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 2026.
