In Shirak Province, cases of untransferred vehicle registration and licensing fees have been uncovered, resulting in significant financial losses to the state.
According to Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, its internal security and anti-corruption department discovered through operative-intelligence measures that a chief specialist at the region’s vehicle registration and examination division conducted registration operations without depositing the required payments into the state treasury.
The investigation revealed that the official collected the full amounts due for vehicle registration and licensing from citizens, but in many cases either failed to transfer the funds to the state account or only transferred a portion of them.
As a result of the official’s illegal actions, the state budget was underpaid by 1,132,000 drams.
The documentation has been forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Committee, which has initiated a criminal case under Article 255, Part 2, Clauses 2 and 3, and Article 441, Part 1 of Armenia’s Criminal Code. A preliminary investigation is underway.
