EU ready to support Trump Route project, says Maragos

The European Union is prepared to mobilize its tools to support not only the Trump Route project but the broader Crossroads of Peace initiative, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos said in Syunik while speaking to reporters.

According to Armenpress, Maragos was commenting on the August 8 declaration signed in Washington by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States.

“The events and meetings that took place on August 8 in Washington were welcomed by the EU, and since then, we have expressed readiness to support these initiatives and promote connectivity. We are ready to deploy our instruments not only within the framework of the Trump Route project but also in the broader context of the Crossroads of Peace initiative, which the EU welcomed two years ago when it was announced by the Armenian government,” Maragos stated.

He emphasized the EU’s consistent support for peace in the South Caucasus.

“We are very happy that peace is approaching. Many details still need clarification, but we are here as a reliable partner of Armenia, the Armenian people, and the Armenian government to support you in this process,” Maragos added.

On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and U.S. President Donald Trump signed a declaration in Washington. One of its provisions outlines Armenia’s cooperation with the United States and other mutually agreed third parties to define the framework for implementing the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) communication initiative within Armenian territory.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that TRIPP is one component of the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace initiative.
