Enterprise Armenia chief: peace opens path to new economy

Gohar Abajyan, Executive Director of the Investment Support Center (Enterprise Armenia), stated that the peace agreement preliminarily signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan signals the beginning of a new economic phase for Armenia—one marked by improved infrastructure and deeper regional integration. She made the remarks during the International Trade and Investment Forum organized by Armenia’s Investment Council.

Abajyan noted that the global trade and investment landscape is shifting rapidly. The most successful investments today, she said, combine technology, services, and production.

“In this new environment, investors look for three things: predictable rules, strong connectivity, and performance. Armenia can offer all three. First, predictability—our investment policy ensures a transparent, rules-based environment that treats all investors equally. We are digitizing our public and investment services to improve efficiency from concept to implementation. Of course, challenges exist—as in any government—but there is a clear commitment from our leadership to support every business and uphold its promises,” she said.

The second critical factor, according to Abajyan, is high connectivity, where Armenia’s geographic position is a natural advantage.

“For us, peace and stability are not abstract terms. They are economic assets we have gained. Through the Crossroads of Peace initiative and the TRIPP project (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity), Armenia will strengthen its multimodal links with the Black Sea, Caspian Sea, and the Persian Gulf. This agreement with Azerbaijan ushers in a new economic era for Armenia,” she stated.

For businesses and investors, this means diversified logistics, shorter transit times, and access to multiple regional markets from a single investment base.

As the third pillar of investment success, Abajyan cited execution and follow-through on projects and initiatives.

“Investors value the confidence that commitments will be fulfilled. Enterprise Armenia stands by all investors. We work closely with the public sector to ensure processes are fast and predictable—from permits to financing options. What sets Armenia apart is not only our technology, but the range of compact yet capable opportunities where global companies can find a base for engineering, production, and prototyping,” she said.

Abajyan expressed confidence that Armenia’s engineering talent, highly skilled workforce, and creative capabilities make it possible to develop a complete vision of the investment landscape and its future potential.

On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration at the White House. During the same event, Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers preliminarily signed the “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations.”
