Yerevan Municipality dismantles café in Saryan Park

On the morning of October 17, Yerevan municipal authorities began dismantling a café in Saryan Park that had been operating since 1996, owned by “Kolorit” LLC. The action was taken without prior notice to the owner, according to Panorama.am .

Narine Vardanyan, the café’s owner, stated that the issue was under court review and that they had not been notified of any planned demolition. “This is vandalism. It turns out there is no legality in this country, whatever they decide, they just do,” she said.

In a statement, Yerevan Municipality said that the structures had been built on public land without construction permits, and that the city is reclaiming park territory for green development.

The Municipality also noted that the owner’s recent request to extend the land lease was denied due to the illegal status of the construction. It emphasized that such notices are not mandatory under the law, though the decision can be appealed in court or to the mayor within two months of its issuance.
