A criminal investigation is underway at the Gyumri City Hall, where investigative actions are being conducted by Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee, according to Aysor.am.
When asked whether anyone had been detained, the committee stated it would issue a statement later.
Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan’s adviser Lilit Aghakyan told http://Factor.am that the mayor had been isolated in his office while searches were being carried out. "They entered City Hall, isolated the mayor in his room, are conducting a search, and are trying to take documents. Half the people are inside, half outside. The work of the municipality is paralyzed," she said.
Previously, it was reported that attorney Aramayis Hayrapetyan, representing Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan and his son Spartak Ghukasyan, had filed a complaint with the Shirak Regional Investigative Department. He demanded a probe into Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s remarks from the National Assembly podium, where he said Ghukasyan should be “thrown out of public life.”
