The municipalities of Yerevan and Naples have signed an agreement on friendship and cooperation, aiming to strengthen collaboration and exchange of experience between the two cities, according to the Yerevan Municipality.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan emphasized the importance of fostering ties with Italian cities, noting Naples holds a special place in this context.
“Yerevan and Naples have signed a friendship and cooperation agreement. Naples is a city that feels much closer to us Armenians than it may seem. In the city’s historic center, there is a street named San Gregorio Armeno, dedicated to Saint Gregory the Illuminator, whose relics are preserved in a church of the same name. This is a beautiful symbol of the connection between our peoples, with a history spanning centuries. In 2023, when I discussed the idea of a direct flight between our cities with my counterpart, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi of Naples, we also touched on it in Yerevan. I am pleased to say that this idea has become a reality: since October, a direct Yerevan-Naples flight is operational, bringing our cities even closer. This agreement opens the door to new joint initiatives with our colleagues in Naples,” Avinyan said.
The official signing ceremony was attended by Alessandro Ferranti, Italy’s Ambassador to Armenia; Francesco Senese, senior advisor for external relations to the Mayor of Naples; and Hayk Sargsyan, advisor to Armenia’s Ambassador to Italy.
