Independent MP Hovik Aghazaryan stated that neither he nor MP Hakob Aslanyan would sabotage the ongoing impeachment process against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He emphasized the need to ensure that no political force tries to claim exclusive ownership over the initiative.
“If the moment comes when our participation becomes the necessary and sufficient condition for impeachment to succeed, we will join without any preconditions,” Aghazaryan told Pastinfo. “For example, if there are already 53 signatures, we will become the 54th and 55th. But there are other possible scenarios too. Either way, the process will not fail because of us.”
He clarified that their support would be contingent on the impeachment effort clearly depending on their involvement.
Addressing negotiations among political forces, Aghazaryan said one key issue in discussions with the Republican Party (HHK) is understanding why their proposed candidate is unacceptable to the opposition.
“They’re saying Edmon Marukyan is just another Nikol Pashinyan. Maybe he’s even worse. But this is about forming a balanced six-month transitional government involving different political streams so no one can dominate the process and we can prepare for the 2026 elections,” he said. “In that sense, it doesn’t matter if it’s Edmon Marukyan or Davit Hambardzumyan.”
He added: “We must be certain that no one can ‘pull the political blanket over themselves’ during this period. Personally, I have concerns — are we removing Nikol Pashinyan to ensure fair and transparent elections, or are we shifting power just to bring the Republican Party to power with our help? If it’s the latter, we won’t participate.”
The "Armenia" parliamentary faction has handed over its signatures to the "I Have Honor" faction to support the impeachment motion. A minimum of 36 MPs is required to submit an impeachment proposal. "I Have Honor" holds 6 seats and "Armenia" has 28 — a total of 34. For the motion to pass, at least 54 votes are needed, meaning at least 20 MPs from the ruling bloc would have to support the initiative.
