TRIPP project advancing after Armenia-U.S. talks

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a speech at the 5th "Silk Road" Forum in Georgia, addressed the process of unblocking regional communication routes in the South Caucasus and referenced agreements signed on August 8 in Washington between Armenia and Azerbaijan with U.S. mediation.

He noted that Armenia and the United States are working to implement the TRIPP project.

“On August 8, 2025, through the initiative and support of U.S. President Donald Trump, the President of Azerbaijan and I adopted a Peace Declaration in Washington, which was also signed by President Trump as a witness. The declaration specifically addresses regional transport routes. Clause 3 states: ‘We reaffirmed the importance of opening communications between the two countries for domestic, bilateral, and international transit, based on respect for state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction, to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and its surroundings. These efforts will include unobstructed communication through Armenian territory between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, with reciprocal benefits for Armenia in terms of international and domestic transportation.’” This was a quote from the Washington Peace Declaration.

Pashinyan emphasized that Azerbaijan has made an important move in realizing this provision. President Aliyev announced yesterday that Azerbaijan is lifting transit restrictions on cargo moving through its territory to Armenia. “This is an extremely important statement, and I would like to express my appreciation to the President of Azerbaijan for this step and welcome the announcement,” said Pashinyan.

He added that something once thought impossible is happening: grain is now being imported into Armenia from Kazakhstan via Azerbaijan and Georgia. “I want to extend my appreciation to Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for this deal,” he said.

Referring to another clause of the declaration, Pashinyan noted: “Clause 4 of the Washington Declaration states: ‘The Republic of Armenia will work with the United States of America and mutually agreed third parties to define the framework for implementing the TRIPP route – Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity – on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. We confirm our determination to take all good-faith steps to achieve this goal as swiftly as possible.’”

“We are now working with the United States to implement these agreements,” Pashinyan added.

He stressed that there is now a historic opportunity to secure not only peace but also a prosperous and developing South Caucasus.

In Washington, Armenian, Azerbaijani, and U.S. leaders—Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Donald Trump—formally agreed to launch the "Trump Route."

“The corridor will allow Azerbaijan to access Nakhchivan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia is also establishing an exclusive partnership with the U.S. to develop this route, with the right to extend the agreement for up to 99 years, and another 99 years thereafter. Major infrastructure development is expected, with U.S. companies eager to enter these countries and invest heavily, bringing economic benefits to all three nations,” Trump said.

On September 11, Pashinyan clarified that Armenia did not lease land to the U.S. for 99 years but granted the right to develop the infrastructure.
