Armenia FM says historic peace achieved with Azerbaijan

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced that peace has been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, marking the end of a long and violent conflict. He made the remarks at the opening of the 4th Ministerial Conference on Feminist Diplomacy.

“This year’s theme, ‘Time for Peace,’ holds special meaning for Armenia. Peace has been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, putting an end to a prolonged conflict filled with bloodshed, violence, loss of life, displacement, and deep trauma,” Mirzoyan said. “The two countries are now working to institutionalize peace and normalize relations as they move through the challenging process of reconciliation.”

He also emphasized the role of women affected by the conflict, describing their suffering as not only a human tragedy but also a political obligation.

“I come from a region where mothers, women, sisters, and daughters have suffered deeply from the consequences of conflict and the pain of losing loved ones. It is both emotional and a duty to highlight their vital role in promoting reconciliation in our societies,” he said. “We must strive to address and prevent such hardships and losses through today’s peace agenda.”

On August 8, during a trilateral meeting at the White House with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a Joint Declaration was signed. At the same event, Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the agreement titled “On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
