Armenia to spend nearly 3 billion AMD on road upgrades

The Armenian government has approved a redistribution within the 2025 state budget, allocating 2.9 billion AMD to the “Road Network Improvement” program. The funds will support ongoing medium-level repairs and construction of state highways, 1lurer.am reports.

Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan stated that the target length for medium repairs is 58 km. “The work is at various stages—some sections are already completed, and others are awaiting final line-marking. As of now, we've repaired, rebuilt, or completed 400 km of roads in 2025,” he noted.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan inquired whether it's possible to reach 500 km of roadwork by the end of the year.

“Absolutely, Mr. Prime Minister. We expect to finish by November—only about 100 km remain, of which roughly 40 km are already structurally prepared. No asphalt laying will occur in December,” the minister responded.

The prime minister acknowledged notable improvements in road quality in recent years but pointed to ongoing issues with construction standards and sustainability. “There’s visible progress, but we must ensure our roads don’t fall back into disrepair. Compared to some countries—even in the Eurasian Economic Union—we haven’t yet matched their quality standards. The final section of the North-South highway is a notable exception,” he said.
