Armenia, India sign 2026 defense cooperation plan

The defense ministries of Armenia and India have signed the 2026 cooperation program, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported.

On October 23, defense consultations between Armenia and India took place in Hyderabad, India, in the format of a joint working group formed under last year’s bilateral defense cooperation framework.

The consultations were co-chaired by Levon Ayvazyan, head of the Defense Policy and International Cooperation Department of Armenia’s Ministry of Defense, and Vishwesh Negi, Joint Secretary for International Cooperation at India’s Ministry of Defense. Armenia’s Ambassador to India, Vahagn Afyan, also participated.

During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the 2025 cooperation program and emphasized the need to include new domains in the 2026 plan.

The parties discussed regional and global security issues and exchanged views. Both delegations shared updates on recent developments within their respective armed forces.

At the end of the event, Armenia and India signed the 2026 defense cooperation program, which includes a wide range of initiatives such as high-level and expert visits, military education, defense technology, combat training and exercises, knowledge exchange, and other collaborative efforts.

An agreement was reached to hold the next meeting in Armenia.

In recent years, Armenia and India have signed several defense contracts reportedly worth up to $1.5 billion. India has supplied Armenia with artillery systems, air defense equipment, ammunition, and other military products. Indian media report that deliveries of Pinaka rocket systems and AKASH surface-to-air missile systems have begun, although Armenia’s defense ministry has not commented on these arms purchases.
