Mirzoyan at feminist forum: Armenia has closed 73.1% of gender gap

Participating in a panel discussion titled “Feminist Foreign Policy for Peace and Security,” Mirzoyan shared Armenia’s latest achievements, including:

  • Armenia has closed 73.1% of its gender gap as of 2025.
  • In the foreign ministry, women make up 44.4% of diplomats, approaching gender parity.
  • Key government institutions traditionally led by men—such as the Interior Ministry, Prosecutor General’s Office, and Intelligence Service—now have female leadership or inclusion.

Mirzoyan stressed that beyond institutional reforms, societal reconciliation after conflict requires women’s leadership:

“We fully respect the pain and trauma experienced by women during conflict. But we must also emphasize that women play a leading role in healing societies and families,” he said, referencing Armenia’s post-conflict status following the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process.

He added that public sentiment in Armenia increasingly supports women in leadership and pointed to a broad cultural shift.

The session was opened by UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous and UN SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten, with participation from global figures including UK Minister Chris Elmore, French Ambassador for Human Rights Isabelle Rome, and Nobel laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk.
