Armenia’s Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan stated that the Constitutional Reform Council has not yet discussed whether to include a reference to the Declaration of Independence in the draft Constitution. She made the remark during a conversation with reporters, Aysor.am reports.
According to Galyan, the Council has begun meeting more frequently.
“At the last session, several issues were put to a vote, and a number of formulations were finalized. In the coming weeks, we’ll launch an information campaign to present the Council’s work to the public,” she said.
Previously, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of adopting a new Constitution when outlining the principles of the “Real Armenia” ideology. He argued that a nationwide referendum is necessary due to the perceived lack of public legitimacy of past constitutional referendums.
Pashinyan said the main goal of the new Constitution is to move away from the “remnants of a stateless nation's behavior” and shape a “state-building citizenry,” based on constitutional harmony and democratic participation.
